Tim Gunn is exactly how he is on Project Runway, with the exception of slightly funnier and maybe a teensy bit less reserved. He talked about anything the audience asked and so he dished a little bit. I was really suprised to find out that the show is filmed and completed in 30 days (minus Fashion Week)! Grueling on everyone, from the sounds of it.
I spoke with him for about 5 minutes while he was signing my books. I mentioned that
pokobelle and I had watched every episode together since the beginning (we did, didn't we? well, almost every episode) and he was actually suprised that we'd watched the whole series from the start. I also asked who he thought was the most talented person who hadn't won. He replied that there are so many because really there is only one winner and even in the final three... " with the exception of Wendy Pepper..." I said, "Well, that was Nancy O'Dell's fault." He threw up his hands and rolled his eyes, looked directly at me and said, "Yes! It was Nancy O'Dell's fault!"All in all, it was a good event. He was approachable, kind and gracious. His book looks interesting, too. And, yes, he is as polished in person as he appears on TV. In fact, for the show, the only people that have hair and make up are Heidi, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia - none of the designers or Tim Gunn himself.
One of these days I'll have to post an entry about Jeffery Sebelia's trunk show. That was quite exciting, not because I am a fan of his but because my friend bought one of the dresses from his Fashion Week collection; my favorite one, actually. It is super cool up close.
