Some great marriage advice

Someone I know is getting married pretty soon.  I haven't met the groom-to-be, but the bride is a hopelessly cute little thing so in love with her man.  It's adorable, really.   The other day she asked me what could she do to have a good marriage.  I think she might have been expecting something like, " Go out on dates or divide the household chores fairly."  But, without hesitation, I answered her:  "Marry the right person."   Which is much easier said that done since everyone gets all caught up in the passionate phase of love and the practical side of it is, let's face it, not quite as exciting.

I think that how a couple spends and saves money is a huge factor in finding the right partner, so I was particularly intrigued with this WSJ article about marrying a financial soul-mate.  I know it sounds very unromantic, but being on the same financial page affords you the kind of marriage you want and that will make for happiness rather than fighting over where money comes in and goes out.  The resulting resentment is a marriage killer, isn't it?

Although we didn't realize it at the time, Lenny and I are pretty right-on-the-right-on when it comes to money.  He prefers to have more of a weekly cushion where as I prefer to pay or save almost to the last penny.  Our solution is to compromise - usually more on my end because I realized that if the cushion is still there the following week and can use it for bills or saving.  hee hee hee hee

I don't think this article pertains to anyone reading my humble blog, but I found the article interesting so I'm posting it.  Perhaps you might find it interesting, too.
